River rafting in Ladakh is quite unlike anywhere else in the world. It
provides the best opportunity to enjoy and experience the natural beauty of the
spectacular landscape with deep gorges, towering snow-capped peaks, hilltop
monasteries, hillside villages, and glimpses of the unique wildlife.
Ladakh offers a range of rafting options on the Indus and its major
tributaries. The best stretch for professionally guided runs in white water is
on the Indus between Spituk and Nimu or Saspol, which rates 2 to 3 in the
international river grading scale of 1 to 6.
Participants are required to be trained rafters themselves while the
arrangements should be assigned to a dependable professional agency. Adequate
arrangements for rescue coverage is an essential pre-requisite for embarking
upon a white -water expedition on river like the Zanskar.
River Indus flows across high altitude cold deserts mountains of Ladakh in
Indian Himalaya, which offers fascinating day rafting near to Leh and three four
days trip can also be organized in the Indus Valley of Ladakh, starting from
Upshi to Nimoo passing through villages, monasteries and gorges of Phey and
Nimoo.
An ultimate white water rafting can be experienced in 14 days in Zanskar
river expeditions with sight seeing of monasteries, riverside camp from July to

- Padum to Nimo:
Grade: IV
Duration: 8-9 days.
This is suitable only for well-organized white-water expeditions, prepared for
about a week of rafting and camping in absolute wilderness. Participants are
required to be trained rafters themselves while the arrangements. Adequate
arrangement for rescue back-up is an essential prerequisite for embarking upon
this white-water expedition.

Grade: II - III
An easy stretch with a few major rapids. This is a one-day stretch. Both these
stretchescan be combined to make a multi day expedition.

This is easily the most popular single day stretch because of its proximity
from Leh and the easy but exciting rapids of Grade 2 & 3.
